We're officially trying something that's new to some, and old to others. I know they're still a thing, but back when I was in my late teens, and early twenties, house shows, and DIY spaces were more common. In that avenue, Punk, and Hardcore bands had split EP's.
What's a "Split" you ask?
It was when two different bands would take advantage of an A/B format, and share space on the same cassette, or vinyl. Artist would typically do two to four songs each, and together they would round out a full project. I always loved that, and personally wanted to do it, but a lot of our peers in Hip-Hop didn't quite get it.
Fast forward 8 years, and Flagstaff has changed a lot. Most of that "punk" aesthetic is gone. Downtown has changed management, been bought out, and remolded to fit a new demographic. The southside of the tracks is no longer the "bad" side, and as the town continues to grow there's a consistent change of identity. In the midst of that change, where do we fit in?
Hip-Hop artists | POC artists | Artists who don't quite fit into that pocket.
Only time will tell, but in the meantime I wanted to bring back this concept. These are two standalone songs I had with friends that existed without a home. There's no Tsoh Tso albums with Jay or Jason, but I thought this was a beautiful opportunity to bring two very different artist from two very different spectrums of Hip-Hop together.
In a way this is an attempt to build community again. This is an attempt to work with new people, and help shine a light if we can. Our label has more of this format in store, and I hope people enjoy this release, and what's to come in the future.
